Kokanee Crankworx - Day 1 Dual Slalom What a start to the 8 great days of mountain biking that we call Crankworx. It rained just enough in the morning to make the course tacky but still keep the crowds at capacity. This year we have added Mason Mashon as a second host to balance out the Tippie factor but as you will see that is no easy task. As well as the dual slalom we checked out the the block party in skiers plaza where they showed Freeride Entertainment s New World Disorder I in its entirety. If day 1 is any indication of how amazing Kokanee Crankworx is going to be this year we are in for an amazing show.

Kokanee Crankworx - Day 2 Monster Energy Garbanzo DownhillToday we saw some of the worlds fastest downhillers on the planet take it to infamous Garbanzo downhill. After yesterdays rain the course was as slick as its become known for year after year. The Monster Energy Garbanzo DH has never had a full top to bottom dry course in the past few years and today proved no different. With some spotty showers up top making the roots ever so greasy and mainly dry conditions down below racers pinned it down to gain some amazingly fast times. Legendary Anne-Caroline Chausson dominated the course as expected she would with last years winner Squamish local Miranda Miller coming in 2nd and Fionn Griffiths rounding out 3rd place.When it came to the Pro Men last years 2nd place Chris Kovarik smashed the record from Justin Leov s 2009 win by over 22 seconds taking in the win. Second place went to Justin and 3rd to fellow NZL countryman Sam Blenkinsop.

Kokanee Crankworx - Day 3 Canadian Open EnduroDay 3 of Kokanee Crankworx started off with the Canadian Open Enduro and ended with us taking Vinay Menon from India on some sweet secret singletrack. The French athletes dominated the enduro with Remy Absalon taking first and Nicolas Vouilloz pulling in quickly after him for second. Ross Schnell from Colorado took third. The French women on top were Anne Caro Chausson and Emmeline Ragot. Third place was captured by Katherine Short. Since the race was held early in the day we decided to take the winner of the bikeparksbc.com contest out for a ride. Vinay Menon won passes to a number of BC parks and came all the way from India to check out what BC has to offer. After seeing snow for the first time (even riding some) and being treated to 5000 feet of buff singletrack, Vinay was more than stoked and says the he can t wait to bring the trail building skills he has witnessed here back to India.

Kokanee Crankworx - Day 4 Air DH and Saint Deep Summer Photo Challenge Today was the Air DH which is the longest running event for Crankworx. With over 40 jumps descending down in under 5 minutes Brian Lopes once again showed everyone why he owns this event. In the Pro womens Anne Caro Chausson won again and is now three 1st place medals deep. She seems unbeatable! In the evening we headed out to the Saint Deep Summer photo challenge which has quickly become the benchmark for an outdoor sports photo contest. BC local and 3 time Arctyrex Deep Winter photo contest winner Jordan Manley once again showed the world how innovative and original his photography and shows are. Actually all the competitors put on great shows. Last but not least we ventured into the late night to check out the Deraylor Music festival which is at the Whistler hotspots and saw BCDC, RA the rugged Man and partied it up into the early AM. Next up we ll be covering the VW trick showdown and see the inaugural Monster Energy pumptrack challenge.

Kokanee Crankworx - Day 5 VW trick showdown and the Ultimate Pump Track ChallengeFrom here in its about to get hectic and big! Today was the beginning of the big show with Slopestyle qualifiers followed by the VW trick showdown. We saw the worlds best sessioning the big huck and trying to earn a spot for Saturday s main event. Later the VW trick showdown went down with Greg Watts and Darren Berrecloth taking the two sections respectively and the crowds taking it in.We re ready for Saturday to begin. Both Darren and Greg stepped it up on the features and showed everyone why their the worlds best. After a quick break we headed up to check out the new festival favorite, the Ultimate pumptrack Challenge with a beautiful sunset and great crowd participation it was easy to see how this will become a premier event. Whistler is ready for the weekend ahead, crowds are amassing, the parties have started and the riders are set its time for the worlds premier bike event to happen. Crankworx 2010

Kokanee Crankwrox 2010 Day 6 Giant giant slalom and Camelback Jump JamDusty and dry conditions set the stage for day 6 where we headed out to check the dirt jump park and see some stylish and progressive riding in action. From the new breed of riders to superpro s and legends of the sport it was for sure worthy to be there. Later in the afternoon and into the evening the Giant bicycles Giant Slalom went down and the course was fast and dry. If you were up there you definitely left with a nose full of dirt and got to see some impressive biking. Riders were pinning it and pedaling as fast as they could with Emmeline Ragot taking Pro Womens and Michal Prokop slaying it for the Pro Mens. After a night of top level DJ s and acts we look forward to the main event tomorrow, the Monster Energy Slopestyle. The benchmark for technical freestyle mountain biking known throughout the world tomorrow is the day we ve been looking forward to.

Kokanee Crankworx Day 7 Monster Energy SlopestyleIt s what we ve been waiting for and today the Monster Energy Slopestyle went down. With blazing hot temperatures and dry conditions some of the top 16 riders in the world hurled themselves down the course with not much regard to bodies or safety. The day started at checking out the skills and finesse of the trials bikers over near the local creekbed. From there it was off to the Cheese rolling championships! Yes we saw people hurtling down the hillside all to grab that wheel of cheese. A now annual competition this British favorite shows who is willing to chase the cheese . After we filled ourselves with the cheese antics we checked out the village scene and got into position for the big show. After seeing Casey Groves tailwhip the Monster stepdown, then soon to be winner Cam Zink 360 it this course was open for the slaughter. Highlights were seeing near perfect runs by Brendan Semenuk and Darren Berrecloth, Both getting injured on the last hit the Kokanee showtime booter the rest of the field were waiting to take control. Cam Zink, Mike Montgomery and Casey Groves had top notch runs but it was Cam Zink s 2nd qualifying run which sealed the deal with technical trickery and huge airs. With Whistler s biggest crowds since the Winter Olympics the nightlife was out of control. The Monster Energy afterparty at the Longhorn was a full house with Mat the Alien s video DJ set and drinks flowing freely. See you tomorrow for the final day which is actually one of the best events the Canadian DH Open. Hope someone has Ibuprofens.

Kokanee Crankworx Day 8 Canadian Open Downhill presented by KonaAfter a very late night and an amazing yesterday I m sure most peoples heads were pounding and in need of a bit of a sleep in. Add in record high temperatures and very dusty conditions you d think the Canadian Open was somewhere like in Utah or Interior BC. The final event is surely not be missed as the Canadian Open downhill course is straight up gnarly. With super steep technical singletrack to a new bottom jump section with some serious pop everyone who was there to see it live got their days worth. The Open is starting to become a huge crowd pleaser with the shirts off rock and rowdy crowds heckling anyone they could and others just running all over to see all the features. In the end it was top world cup downhillers Emmeline Ragot taking the Pro womens and Gee Atherton taking the mens. Both are looking forward to the World Championships in 2 weeks in Mt. Saint Anne QC. Crankworx 2010 is surely to go down as the best ever with yesterdays record crowds and great weather everyday all events went off without a hitch. Until next year where we ll be back again enjoy some of the highlights of today and overall.
